Argumedo defends IBF belt v Mendoza
Jose Argumedo from Mexico defends his IBF strawweight belt against Gabriel Mendoza of Colombia in Mexico on Saturday.
The 28-year-old Argumedo (19-3-1; 11) won the belt in December 2015 on a ninth-round technical decision over Katsunari Takayama and has made successful defences against Julio Mendoza (pts 12), and in his most recent fight in November 2016 he stopped Jose Antonio Jiminez in the third round.
Two of his losses have come early in his career and in May 2015 he lost on a split decision against Carlos Verlarde in a clash for the vacant IBF Latino strawweight title.
Mendoza, 37, who has a record of 28-4-2 (23) made his pro debut in December 2008 and in March 2014 he lost on a unanimous 12-round points decision to Alberto Rossel in a bout for the interim WBA light-flyweight belt.
Since that setback he has had ten fights, winning nine with seven coming inside the distance.
With a 68 percent knockout ratio Mendoza is in with a punchers chance, but Argumedo is the betting favourite to retain his title on points over 12 closely fought rounds.
