Indongo wins unification clash
Namibia's Julius Indongo added the WBA junior-welterweight belt to his IBF and IBO belts when he beat Ricky Burns of Scotland by wide margins on a 12 round unanimous points decision at the SSE Hydro in Glasgow, Scotland on Saturday night.
The scores were 120-108, 118-110 and 116-112.
After a slow start the southpaw Indongo 22-0; 11 using his height and reach kept Burns 41-6-1; 14 a three-weight world champion on the back-foot.
The stronger Indongo, 34, used his power through most of the rounds to break down the 34-year-old Burns who spent most of the time on the defensive and could hardly get into the fight.
Burns tried to rally at times but was weary of the Namibian’s power.
A top line fight in the junior-welterweight division would now see the WBA/IBF champion Indongo take on the WBC/WBO champion Terrence Crawford.
On the undercard Charlie Edwards won the vacant British junior-bantamweight title with a unanimous 12 round points decision over Iain Butcher.
The scores were 120-109 and 120-108 twice.
Robbie Barrett beat Scotty Cardle on a majority 12 rounds points decision to claim the British lightweight title.
The scores were 115-113, 114-112 and 114-114.
