Vondrousova climbs 116 places

Czech teenager Marketa Vondrousova climbed 116 places to 117 in the WTA rankings released on Monday following her victory the day before at the Biel/Bienne Open.

The 17-year-old called it "the biggest win of my career" after defeating Anett Kontaveit of Estonia 6-4, 7-6 (8/6) in the Swiss tournament final.

At the other end of the age spectrum, 37-year-old Italian Francesca Schiavone moved up 64 places to 104th by winning the title in Bogota.

The 2010 French Open champion is playing her final season on the circuit.

Germany's Angelique Kerber remained top of the pile ahead of American Serena Williams.
